I took a long time choosing a case for my much loved new toy. I am a difficult person to please because I am an Animal lover/vegan so didn’t want leather, but wanted a great quality case that would stand portrait and landscape, switching easily between the two for ease of use.

There are quite a few good cases around (although not as good as this one) but manufacturers tend to make the “best” cases in leather thinking that is the best quality material, or what most people want. More and more now though people are looking for viable alternatives to leather wether for environmental or animal safety awareness reasons. I did find a few cases in other materials such as cork but most of those were just shells to protect the back of the iPad and did not include a stand.

Next came my desire for a case with a stand enabling the iPad 2 to stand securely in portrait or landscape orientation. There are surprisingly few choices offering this. Most offer either a variation on Apples own smart cover design, or just a flap that pops out to lean on which may look fine but in practice would not take the pressure of typing or maniacally hitting a spell in Pocket Legends or swiping at enemies in Infinity Blade and so the list goes on.

After adding about 20 cases to my bookmark, all of which had some features that I liked or needed but none matching my requirements enough to make me part with my cash, I typed into Google “Vegan iPad 2 case” in desperation with little hope of a result and came across the Tuff-Luv range of cases, in particular this one.

Firstly, the material. It looks like leather, but is far more durable, and no animals were killed to get it. The inside of the case which touches the screen has a velvety material on it for added protection. Secondly, the stand system. It’s literally amazing. Some cases come with a built in keyboard, but I can almost guarantee you won’t need one with this case. It stands at 5 possible angles in landscape mode, making a very comfortable typing position for anyone’s needs. The clever Tuf-Luv design actually tethers the stand in place using velcro, and it is incredibly secure. You can place a great deal of pressure on the iPad/case and it won’t move. I am currently in bed with the stand balanced on my crossed legs and because the keyboard on the iPad in landscape mode is actually bigger than a standard keyboard, I am able to touch type with ease (any typos in this are down to my inadequacies, not the cases).
In Portrait mode, the iPad can be balanced on either corner of the case, which bends back by way of a built in seam. In fairness, this way of standing is nowhere near as secure as in landscape mode, however it works well, is secure enough to type on, and game on in portrait, and I think will get more stable with use due to the way it is constructed.

It is incredibly easy to switch from portrait to landscape mode. Once you have used the Velcro tether system a couple of times you can literally do it in a couple of seconds. Also, while the case is tethered in landscape mode, you can move it around, put it to one side while you do something else, spin it around, and it will stay securely tethered.

I am so thrilled with this case, and will definitely be sticking with the Tuf-Luv brand for other cases. It is wonderful that they offer the great range of non-leather cases. I showed it to my Father yesterday. He has always been a leather lover, and insisted on leather shoes etc. When he saw my case he was very surprised and said “I didn’t expect you to buy a leather case”. I explained that the case wasnt leather, but was better because it had the lovely look and feel but was more durable and ethical. He has just ordered an iPad 2 being very impressed with mine but I think he may have been even more impressed with the case! What is more shocking is the fact that my 73 year old Dad is ordering the non-leather option as he was so impressed with it – plus he likes a bargain and it was slightly cheaper. But I can not state enough what a big deal it was for him to chose the non leather option, and how it shows how amazing quality it is.

I must explain my reason for only giving 4 stars for this amazing case. I have not had it long, and until I know that it will stand the test of time, I want to be fair. However, at this price, and this quality, even if it only lasted for 6 months I’d get another to replace it. Mostly because in all my research I did not find another case, leather or otherwise, that allowed the iPad to stand so securely that it can be leaned on and tossed around without moving, and can stand in both portrait and landscape. People laugh at me for doing so much research before I decide what to buy, but I’m so glad I did!

Fantastic iPad 2 case in vegetarian leather, 7 Jan 2012

I am so pleased with the great quality of this case. I had been searching around for ages trying to find a good non-leather case. This case does everything you could need, balancing your iPad in every direction and doing so safely, with its secure fastening options. You can also rest it quickly in each position if needed.

I was really nicely surprised by the great quality of the material. It even looks and feels better than many leather cases that my friends and colleagues have. They can’t believe its not leather (its made of PU, poly-urethane, which is the best leather-look material I have found anywhere). It feels smooth and soft and looks very professional and has a high quality finish.

I would highly recommmend this leather-like case to anyone, vegetarian or otherwise, as a professional, easy to use, well made and high quality iPad2 case.

I wanted a case to hold the iPad and keep it safe and found this during my search. The Tuff Luv cases just look a bit better than most others so they drew my attention and I’m glad they did. I only bought this version because it’s cheaper than the real leather version but I have to say it’s hard to tell once it’s in your hand. It feels sturdy and safe and I am much happier carrying it around now.
    I had 3 main criteria
    1. Protect the rear – the normal iPad cover only protects the front so I didn’t want to put it down on a table in case it got scratched so this style of case was my best option.
    2. Make it easier to carry – I find the slippy metal and glass, while pretty, finish of the iPad makes me worried it will slip out of my hand but this is so much easier to hold and carry.
    3. Have a built in stand – I wanted to be able to have it at a better angle when browsing without having to hold it.

This case fits all the above brilliantly while being good value and nice to look at. The stand function works very well indeed although I don’t use it in portrait which is just as well because it’s not perfect in that respect. It can do it but it’s a little clumsy compared with the great way it works in landscape mode.

Other people who have seen it can’t believe how little I paid for it given the quality and functionality. The fact it’s vegetable leather doesn’t even come into it, it’s just a nice bonus.
